Cool down this summer with blue bed throw
Posted: 25 June 2009
The summer is here and consumers may be keen to find ways to stay cool in their bedroom - a goal which may be achieved with a spot of interior design.
And homeowners may also wish to take inspiration for their colour scheme from the blue sky and white clouds that the warmer months can boast.
Light up the bedroom
The first step home decorators should take when it comes to injecting a cool and summery feeling into their bedroom is to choose the correct colour palette.
Ideal Home Magazine recommends that people can say goodbye to hot and sleepless nights by creating a calm and restful space in which to sleep with pastels and white decor.
It advises that homeowners paint the walls in a pale green, which could help to create an air of a summer garden.
Furniture should be simple and ideally painted in white, while the whole colour scheme can be complemented with pale or powder blue accessories.
Choosing summer fabrics
The next step, according to Ideal Home, is to choose suitable fabrics to match the new look.
A light sheer fabric could be used to make curtains that will let the sun shine in during the day, while heavy curtains can be tied back during daylight hours and then utilised to keep out those rays on long morning lie-ins.
Finally, the magazine turns to the bed.
"A new set of cool white cotton bed linen will be an instant summer hit. Choose a low-tog duvet and 100 per cent cotton sheets and finish with a light throw in a summery baby blue."
Britons looking for the perfect sheets to relax under in the summer time may wish to choose Egyptian cotton, which can be light and cool for hot weather.
Ideal Home finishes with a helpful tip for when the time comes to change bed linen ready for the colder weather.
"Store your winter bedding in these smart under-bed storage boxes," it recommends.
Sarah Warwick, for Channel 4 Homes, is also a fan of the blue colour palette during the summer months, recently stating the shade was the "perfect choice" for creating a bedroom that is both invigorating to wake up to but soothing when falling asleep.
