Egyptian cotton is 'becoming more popular'
Published: 29 April 2009
The use of Egyptian cotton as a fabric is growing in popularity, a new report has stated, with the fibres usually used in bed linen now being applied to clothing to keep people cool in the warmer months.
Certain fabrics are so popular that many manufacturers will use them in anything, with one fibre that is usually used in bed linen grabbing the attention of many people in warmer climates. The luxurious Egyptian cotton, more at place on beds around the country, is being harnessed by fashionistas and people simply wanting a cooler time during the hot summer months, according to the Times of India, an area where the desire for the organic blend has snowballed.
According to the newspaper, many people are taken by the fabric in both bed linen and clothing as it is durable and extremely smooth to the touch.
However, while Egyptian cotton may be the king of materials, lycra, chiffon and jersey are also particularly loved by people around the world for the properties they provide, the Times of India concluded.
The use of heavy bedding in hotels was recently criticised by Philip Comans of the Sydney Morning Herald, who said that particularly in warmer climates, only an Egyptian cotton sheet is needed.
