Egyptian cotton sheets 'better than duvets' in hotels
Published: 24 April 2009
With the hotter weather on the way, one crusader has spoken out against hotels using inflexible duvets on their beds, stating that Egyptian cotton and light cotton comforters for such accommodation is enough.
The duvet is now the enemy of one writer following uncomfortable stays at hotels in Australia and Bangkok.Philip Comans, a columnist for the Sydney Morning Herald, stated that a tightly-tucked duvet on the beds of hotels results in nothing productive other than "sweat-soaked sheets" as well as a remarkable amount of tossing and turning throughout the night.
The writer continued: "Why oh why have hoteliers embraced this fashion? What is wrong with the good old-fashioned fine Egyptian cotton sheet, light cotton blanket, along with a spare, folded neatly at the foot of the bed?"
Mr Comans called for the end of such "inflexible monsters", noting that he would not need the staff to change the bed without such heavy bedding as he would have been able to avoid losing five litres of water during the night.
Although it may not be as oppressive as the writer stated, easyHotels which are going to pop up around the UK are prioritising bed linen above all else, with the budget accommodation chain making their bedrooms as utilitarian as possible, according to This is Bristol.
