'Warm, lavish fabrics' and 'plain palette' top interior design tips Investing in warm, lavish fabrics can help transform an average property into a chic, contemporary home, it has been suggested.

As part of the latest Best Laid Plans interior design advice issued through the Toronto Star magazine, one expert has pointed out the potential benefits of even the simplest touches, such as bedding and curtains.

Writing for the newspaper, interior designer Dolores Pian explained that in the living rooms, chrome and wood are 'in' at the moment.

"A grey, black, white and red palette is very chic and says up-to-date," the expert advised.

She added that corner statues or even indoor trees can also give even the simplest apartment 'the wow factor'.

Meanwhile, Reuters has reported that Starbucks is starting to invest in 'heavy velvet curtains' and host indie movie nights as it looks to revamp some of its coffee shops in North America.
