'Increasing numbers' want organic cotton bedding

A growing number of consumers are choosing bedding, comforters and duvet sets made only from organic cotton, it is claimed.
An increasing number of people are turning to organic cotton in preference to that grown using pesticides and other chemicals, it is reported.Online resource Health is Wealth claims there has been a boom in the number of people buying organic cotton bed linen, duvet covers and baby wraps, as well as clothes.
It reports that many people believe organic cotton is a healthier alternative to the normal fabric and can cause fewer allergies.
Furthermore, the organically-farmed fabric is a healthier choice for farmers and is gentler on the planet, the website continues.
"You will be surprised to know that conventional cotton accounts for nearly 25 per cent of the insecticides and ten per cent of the pesticides used in the world," it notes.
The publication explains this is despite only three per cent of cultivated areas being used to grow cotton.
Recently, the Times suggested people can make their homes more eco-friendly through measures such as buying organic cotton bed linen.
It added that such bedding is both fashionable and environmentally friendly.
