'Sleeping on it' doesn't help reports study

However pleasant curling up under cotton bed linen and duvet sets may be, it does not help people think, according to research. Men, however, still have some excuse for buying luxury bed linen.
People have been urged not to sleep on big decisions as this does not cause them to make wiser decisions.Research published by the Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology warns leaving decisions to the next day can lead to poor choices, just as much as making a snap judgement.
The author of the study Ben Newell, a University of New South Wales psychologist, argued that rather than snoozing when considering an important decision, people should remain conscious if they want to make the best judgement they are capable of.
"Our research suggests that unconscious thought is more susceptible to irrelevant factors, such as how recently information has been seen rather than how important it is," he adds.
While people may no longer have such thoughtful excuses for falling into bed, men at least still have good reason for stocking up on comfortable luxury bed linen, duvet sets and bed throws, if one study is to be believed.
A recent poll published by Ideas4All revealed almost half of all men report experiencing flashes of inspiration while they lie cuddled up under their duvet sets.
