Back to school 'means more bedbugs'
Published: 20 August 2009
Due to trips out and about during the holidays, don't be surprised if bed linen becomes the target of bedbugs over the first couple of months of the academic year, it has been warned.
If parents find bedbugs in their child's room in the coming weeks, they shouldn't be all that worried or concerned about the room's cleanliness, though they should obviously get rid of them, it has been said. This is because Bell Environmental Services, a pest management company in New York, said there is always a greater need for their services in September and October.
It's for a good reason, too: younger people regularly go to camps and on holiday, with bedbugs and other creatures stowing away in luggage before turning their sights on bedrooms in family homes as well as universities and other group living arrangements around the world.
"If parents don't take measures to prevent bed bugs from entering their house or detect them early, these bugs can quickly reach alarming levels and infest many areas of the home," said Jennifer Erdogan, the manager of the bed bug division at Bell Environmental.
A person needs to prioritise cleanliness when fighting bed bugs, noting that they will not leave bedding alone until they're destroyed completely, Karen Youso told the Star Tribune earlier this month.
