Bedbugs 'must be addressed head-on'
Published: 17 August 2009
As soon as bedbugs are seen in a house, the person must take immediate action to stop an infestation and rid the house of the blood-sucking critters, checking bedding and mattresses to seek them out.
As soon as bedbugs are spotted, bed linen and all fabrics must be cleaned to stop them spreading, it has been said.Writing for the Star Tribune, Karen Youso emphasised the need for a person to prioritise health and cleanliness and highlighted how such creatures will not leave bedding alone without major intervention.
Anything from carpets to curtains to children's toys can be infested by the small bugs, though checking the seams of duvet covers, pillowcases and the like will turn up the vast majority of them, Ms Youso explained.
She described what people should be looking for, outlining their flat brown shape and lack of wings, though they change after feasting on the room owner's blood, turning into a purplish-red cigar-shaped insect.
Hot water washes and vacuum cleaning is highly recommended by experts in the fight against bedbugs, though the most important thing is to check old or second-hand items for stowaways before putting them in the home.
