Ease kids gently into early school starts

After weeks off from school, parents need to be strategic in how to return their children's sleep schedules to normal.
There are numerous ways in which parents can encourage their children into bed earlier ahead of going back to school, an expert has revealed.Jonathan Fleming, co-director of the sleep program at the University of British Columbia Hospital, noted that keeping them away from late night stimulants will help.
This involves depriving them of caffeine and soft drinks, he explained to the Globe and Mail Update, as these will make them hyperactive.
"Basically, you shouldn't be taking caffeine in after four in the afternoon," he told the news provider, adding that electronic devices can also deprive youngsters of sleep.
Another good tactic is not to let them sleep in at weekends, as this will make the body confused during the week days, Dr Fleming commented.
"If you lie in a lot on Saturday morning, Sunday morning, you'll be sleep-saturated come Sunday night," the expert added.
A piece for the Daily Mail recently suggested that people who fall asleep late may have a disrupted body clock.
