Mattress protectors 'a student essential'
Published: 06 August 2010
Bed bugs and mildew can be prevented by taking a mattress protector to university.
Taking a mattress protector to university can help students be comfortable at night, it has been suggested.Parents should consider this an essential purchase as it will help reduce the effects of mildew and bed bugs, the Battle Creek Enquirer said.
It noted that in some cases, buying a new mattress may not be possible so this is a more affordable alternative and can be easily transported to the university accommodation.
The news provider explained: "A mattress cover zips all around the top and bottom of the bed, creating a barrier between it and your kid."
Parents were recently advised by Dr Philip Alapat, medical director of the BCM Sleep Center, to help their teenagers get into a proper sleep routine.
Sleep patterns can often fall out of sync during the summer months as they stay up later, the expert explained.
