Mayor and dean to forego beds for charity
Published: 16 August 2010
The mayor and dean of Peterborough have signed up to sleep rough to raise awareness for a local charity.
Two public figures are to give up their double beds for the night to raise money for a good cause.Councillor Keith Sharp, the mayor of Peterborough, and dean of the city's cathedral Charles Taylor will both be taking part in Sleep Rough 2010.
They will be part of a 50-strong contingent of people who have so far signed up for the event on November 12th, Peterborough Today reports.
It is taking place in support of the Peterborough Soup Kitchen, with organisers hoping around 300 people will sign up.
Mr Taylor explained the need for the cash: "It is quite simply to meet the most basic of human needs - food and drink.
"Is that really too much to ask? I think not - so come and join me for the sponsored sleep-out."
Participants will have to ensure they get at least seven hours shut-eye, as this was recently identified by American researchers to be the optimum amount of sleep a person needs to be healthy.
