Bedbugs 'necessitate bedding overhaul'
Published: 11 December 2009
Bedbugs are an addition to a house which everyone wants to avoid, yet if it happens, people must prioritise the overhaul of their bedding to avoid any further damage or infestation, it is asserted.
People must be well-prepared for the possibility of a bed bug infestation in their home, according to an expert.San Francisco Chronicle writer Richard Fagerlund noted that many people can offer a range of treatments and methods of approaching the problem, but many are costly and people simply need to be vigilant to sort the problem out and make their bedding comfortable again.
"Crevices in solid structures, such as the joints in the bed's headboard or between the wall and the baseboard, are the bedbugs' refuge of choice," he explained, noting that everything must be stripped and everything must be taken for a hot wash above 120 degrees C.
Stuffed animals, bed linen and even electronics such as alarm clocks can also contain them, as well as seams in a mattress.
Feeding on blood, bedbugs are oval shaped and are between 5-7mm large, meaning they are quite visible to the human eye.
