Bedding: Wash with care
Published: 30 December 2009
The importance of taking good care of bed linen has been highlighted by one interiors expert, who says the correct washing and drying cycle can make bedding last longer.
Bedding should be washed and dried with care so as to keep it at its best, according to one linen expert.Duvet covers, pillow cases and other bedding items should be washed at 40 degrees C maximum, Jean Murray, of Ottawa's Linen Chest, tells the Canwest News Service.
"Excessive heat is the enemy of all linens," she comments, pointing out that washing carefully can enhance the durability and longevity of bed linen.
"The dryer is fine as long as you use the warm setting and if possible only fluff and remove from dryer immediately on completion of the drying cycle," Ms Murray continues.
She also advises those using a dryer to remove their bedding a few minutes before the end of the programme to help eliminate wrinkles.
Bedding made of 50 per cent cotton and 50 per cent polyester is also recommended by the bedding expert as it washes and wear well and does not wrinkle.
