Social and environmental responsibilities weigh heavily on many people's shoulders and, as a result, a number are turning to the likes of organic cotton when it comes to clothing and bed linen, it has been reported.

Organic cotton is 'becoming way more popular' Fashion is becoming much more ethical, according to a new report from the capital.

Liz Hoggard of the London Evening Standard explained how the market is starting to boom in light of ecological concerns.

Sarah Ratty, the powerhouse designer behind Ciel - a brand worn by Cate Blanchett, Sienna Miller and Jasmine Guinness - said that it all started in earnest when Karl Lagerfeld did an ecological collection for Chanel, making everyone take notice.

She continued: "The bubble-up effect is filtering through bigger companies such as LVMH. And of course Stella McCartney has been brought up with a green background.

"It's a really big thing that she stands up against the fashion houses which were built on leather. It's a quiet revolution."

Ms Ratty added that her plan is to go into a more lifestyle-orientated business with the likes of organic cotton, which may include bed linen and other bedding additions.

The Organic Trade Association notes that while organic cotton is used for a lot of fabric applications, cottonseed oil is also produced for biscuits and crisps, making it a flexible product.
