Survey: Christmas sees kids shunning their bedding
Published: 21 December 2009
Christmas is a time for excitement - so much so that children are ignoring their organic cotton bedding for that little bit longer, overcome by their enthusiasm for the Christmas period.
A new survey has showed that children are severely lacking in sleep over the Christmas period - so much so that they are affecting the harmony of the rest of the family unit, it is believed.Silentnight's recent poll as reported by the Press Association concluded that slightly above 25 hours of sleep are lost over the yuletide holidays by children as they are too excited to get involved with their bedding over the period.
Speaking on behalf of the company, Amanda Jones said that it was a surprising result and one that causes a lot of trouble when people should instead be celebrating together, though children are more likely to be over-tired or grumpy in an ironic twist.
"Sleep deprivation makes our children short-tempered and miserable and it just goes to show that having the recommended eight hours a night really can make a big difference to their mood," Ms Jones added.
WebMD, a leading source of health information, recommends that seven to 12-year-olds need around ten to 11 hours of sleep a night - so parents might want to take note if they want a great Christmas without a hitch.
