Woman pays for bedding after 38 years

A woman who was undercharged for the purchase of less-than-luxury bed linen has finally let her conscience get the better of her and has returned to the shop after 38 years to pay her dues.

Woman pays for bedding after 38 years Sometimes, consciences can do a lot of things to people - it was certainly demonstrated in the case of Sylvia Blampey, a 77-year-old lady from Paignton, Devon.

That is because the wonderful woman decided to return to a shop where she bought bedding from 38 years ago, as she knew she had been undercharged for her purchase of three blankets.

Instead of coughing up the expected £9, she was asked to pay only £3, as the tiller had only taken into account the sale of one blanket.

However, events in 1971 have weighed heavily on Ms Blampey's mind and she returned to Jackson's in Reading and gave Brian Carter, the managing director of the firm, £20 for the bed linen, with the man donating it to charity.

He said: "I had to pinch myself to check I wasn't dreaming when she told me she wanted to pay the debt."

People who are considering changing their own 38-year-old bed linen for something a little different may want to go for brand new designs as this can completely overhaul the feel of a room, according to Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams, two upmarket interior designers talking to ABC7 this month.
