The preservation of curtains has featured as part of a range of top tips to save plenty of money during the crunch, with other linen perhaps benefitting from one of the best 50 ideas available from 1,000 compiled by a national newspaper.

According to the Daily Telegraph's best 50 tips compiled from its 1,000-strong guide published by the Reader's Digest, fish is a great substance to eat as it is a healthy option, yet cooking it can destroy the homely smell of a house.

It continued: "Put a good-sized dollop of peanut butter in the pan when frying fish. The peanut butter will absorb the odour instead of your carpet, curtains and furniture."

Home Garden Resource stated that when people are buying curtains to match their room, they should focus on choosing colour and pattern before going for personality.
