Bedding 'may hold memory bank' for nappers
Published: 23 February 2010
People who retreat to their bed and get an hour under the duvet cover may find themselves much more adept at memory tasks, showing that bedding can truly deliver benefits to the body and mind.
To boost learning and memory, it may only require a very basic and direct course of action to give the mind the edge, according to a new report published in the US.The University of California, Berkeley's Matthew Walker revealed the results of a recent in-house survey, which collared 39 students and then divided them into two groups.
Volunteers had their brain's hippocampus tested through a simple memory game before two hours passed and one group were instructed to embrace their bed linen for 60 minutes, while the others stayed awake
Later in the afternoon both groups took part in a second round of tests and it was found that people who enjoyed an hour on their mattress not only outdid their counterparts but also scored better than they did in their first round of examinations.
The Press Association recently reported that Dr Sean Drummond went against the grain when telling delegates at the American Association for the Advancement of Science that people over 60 do not need less sleep than younger people, though they nap more during the day to make up for it.
