Black and white set to be 'all the rage' this year

Black and white colour contrasts are expected to be all the rage across bed linen and other interior design features this year, it has been claimed.

Black and white colour contrasts across bed linen and duvet covers are set to be popular in 2010, according to a leading interior designer.

This bold graphic effect, favoured by interior designer Carolyn Trevor, has been heavily influenced by the economic downturn, and helps to give a room an "urban edginess".

Ms Trevor, who is also a member of the British Institute of Interior Design, added that this look also works well when complemented by splashes of vibrant colour.

She explained: "Team dark and dramatic colours together in a scheme for a theatrical look and experiment with a paint finish as well as colour to make a real statement."

Her comments follow those of Debra Kacher, from dk interiors, last week, underlining the influence that fashion trends are expected to have on the colour of interiors this year.

However, she expects soft nude shades and pastels to be on-trend across bed linen in 2010, in contrast to Ms Trevor's stark black and white predictions.
