Avoid crashing on a bed spread when studying, says teacher
Published: 02nd September 2010
Cosying up under a duvet cover is not the best way for children to do their homework.
Youngsters need to avoid getting comfortable on their bed spreads when trying to do homework, as this is unlikely to make them very productive, a headteacher has said.
Dan Haley emphasised that many children benefit from having a space dedicated to studying as it helps the mind to focus, the Edmonton Journal reports.
With two children of his own, Mr Haley has seen what a difference it can make if children are encouraged to leave their bedrooms to carry out school tasks.
He explained: "They really need to have an organised and structured study time and space that is undisturbed.
"The bedroom is identified with the relaxation area, the play area, and not necessarily the work area."
Jonathan Fleming, co-director of the sleep program at the University of British Columbia Hospital, recently advised parents that they need to encourage youngsters back into their school sleeping routines as early as possible.
