Bedding fans called up to enter race

Want to test the aerodynamic properties of your bed linen? Then head to Knaresborough this June - so long as you get your application in first.
It's not often that people are able to test out the aerodynamic properties of their bed linen, yet one event this June will do exactly that for the 45th time.Knaresborough's world-famous Bed Race will reach the milestone in 2010 and the event - which attracts around 30,000 visitors each year to the Yorkshire market town - is asking for people to join up and raise money for charity by submitting to become one of the 90 teams in the contest.
Chairman of the race Richard Hall said that the event goes from strength to strength and has risen from just 60 entries last year to accommodate 50 per cent more participants, with each asked to be as creative with their bedding as possible.
"By moving the start of the parade this year to the Castle grounds we were able to accommodate more teams than ever," Mr Hall said. "The increase in places to 90 means we have reached the maximum level to hold both the parade and the race."
Seven members are needed for each team: six to push their bedding with another as a "bed passenger".
One famous participant in the race is Rory McGrath, who stepped into a team's line-up as part of a Channel Five documentary on the town and its tradition.
