Many people have problems getting a decent night's sleep due to complications caused by insomnia - which is why many people are using their bedding as a platform for yoga.

Comfortable bedding a must for new yoga-based relaxation Yoga is one of the best ways a person can get the most out of their mattress and avoid any future bouts of insomnia, according to a new report.

In Canada's Globe and Mail, it was reported that many people are increasingly turning to their bedding as a relaxing refuge before finally sleeping, spreading themselves out on the bed linen and adopting a number of ancient positions to encourage calm within their minds.

The practice was backed up by Sat Bir Khalsa, an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, who has studied treatments for insomnia - particularly yoga - since 2001.

He asserted: "My major complaint with sleeping pills is that it doesn't address the problem. It's just a hammer to knock your brain out."

Celebrities known for their practising of yoga include Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie.
