Mattress cleaning services are 'not best' for dust mites
Published: 06 January 2010
Dust mites can really affect the quality of sleep people get, though treating bedding with new-fangled technology may not be the most cost-effective way to get rid of them, according to experts.
Killing dust mites is top priority for people wanting the best from their luxury duvet covers and bed linen, though new techniques are coming along to deal with them. However, the Wall Street Journal's Laura Johannes said that while techniques using such things as ultraviolet-C light or dry-steam methods can be effective, they are also costly and may not be as cheap as more tried-and-tested ways.
This was certainly backed up by Peyton Eggleston of Johns Hopkins Children's Hospital in Baltimore, who said that regular or traditional treatments are much better such as the use of inexpensive covers to envelop mattresses, pillows and box springs.
And while they may take longer, dust mites or their waste products do not come into contact with humans so much.
Bed bugs, however, are certainly a priority to destroy, with the Bed Bug Support Dept recently emphasising the need to use hot irons and hair dryers to fight them off alongside freezers for bedding and miscellaneous bed linen.
