Memory foam comes to the rescue for American footballers

American footballers at a younger level may be handed a lifeline by a memory foam bedding expert, who has used the material to make helmets safer for the high-impact sport.
A man who specialises in one of the most comfortable bedding materials available has decided to apply it to an altogether different field, using the celebrated health benefits of memory foam to bring more safety to one of the most high-intensity sports in the world.Working at a small bedding company in North Carolina, Tom Morgan of Dynamic Systems has developed a lining for American football helmets with the compound, the Asheville Citizen-Times revealed this month.
Head injuries are becoming more commonplace in the sport and many studies are linking the issue with dementia, with the top-tier National Football League (NFL) even running a concussion committee to look into the long-term effects of the sport on past and present players.
Said the memory foam expert of his grand plan: "I certainly think the NFL is important but our real commitment is to the collegiate, high school and junior high athletes.
"These are the precious young people that need to be protected."
The Super Bowl is looming for American football fans around the world, with the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts and Minnesota Vikings the only remaining teams lined up for the title in February.
