One-room flats 'need clever design'
Published: 27 January 2010
People who have a one-room flat to live in must ensure they keep privacy paramount while also creating an open space, meaning that duvet covers and other bedding need to be hidden away.
When designing a one-room apartment or flat, people must make sure they keep their bedding in a sphere of privacy, it has been stated. The Associated Press gave tips to people living in studio-esque abodes, noting that many people will openly put their bed on show when in reality, it is just a case of obscuring it with a partition of sorts - such as a bookcase - to preserve the more intimate and personal bed linen and associated space.
Ron Marvin, an interior designer who appears on the HGTV show Small Spaces, Big Style, told the news provider: "First, think about what you need the space to do. Think of your room as a beautifully appointed hotel room."
Tips given include the lining of walls with bigger furniture, such as two large sofas, to keep the room open, while coffee tables that can double-up for dining are great space-savers.
Lighting is also important as it can create zones in the room, the Associated Press added.
Bedrooms are soon to be the setting for the Red Bull Bedroom Jam, which is encouraging young unsigned artists to musically gallivant with their ensemble on their bed linen in order to win a record contract.
