Does a good night's sleep improve your child's school performance?
Published: 30 January 2012
Good sleep patterns at toddler age could prove crucial for future school performance.
Ensuring your child gets a good night's sleep so they are attentive in the mornings could be important as early as toddler age.New research by scientists at the University of Montreal in Canada indicated that attentiveness during kindergarten is a good predictor of work ethic in school.
Researchers assessed behaviour, self-confidence and self control, as well as their ability to follow directions.
"Children who are more likely to work autonomously and harmoniously with fellow classmates, with good self-control and confidence … are more likely to continue such productive behaviours into the adult workplace," noted Dr Linda Pagani. "In child psychology, we call this the developmental evolution of work-orientated skills, from childhood to adulthood."
Earlier this month, the British Snoring and Sleep Apnoea Association underlined the importance of getting enough sleep, claiming that lack of sleep can contribute to bad temper, proneness to argument and depression.
