40 years of innovation for Nasa

Nasa will soon be celebrating the 40th anniversary of its first moon landing, with the organisation being listed for its wide range of contributions to society over the last four decades - including memory foam, it is noted.
On July 20th, Nasa will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of its ultimate conquering of space, when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon and broadcast his famous words back to Earth. However, as part of the space race, Nasa developed dozens of products which are used today in many ways, with Scotland on Sunday listing one for each year of the organisation's life after the landings.
Memory foam is high on the list, with the material developed to relieve G-force pressure on astronauts during lift-off.
However, its wider applications now include its use in mattresses, where it is regularly used to ease pain and reduce the incidence of bed sores, the newspaper asserted.
Other compiled inventions include long-life tyres, faster golf balls, WD-40, smoke detectors and major advances in heart surgery.
This week, Nasa promised that a restored video of the Apollo 11 moonwalk will be released in the next week.
