TV in kids bedroom 'may disrupt children'
Published: 28 July 2010
Parents have been urged against allowing their children to have a television in their bedroom, which may disrupt their bed spread sleeping pattern.
Parents should think twice about putting a TV into their child's bedroom, as it could prevent them from getting a good night's sleep on their bedding. In an article for the Associate Press, Melissa Dutton explained that studies have linked kids' TV viewing to problems with obesity, poor grades and misbehaviour.
If parents insist on putting a TV into their child's bedroom, Ms Dutton recommends using newer models that feature in-built parental controls, to prevent kids from watching programmes that are inappropriate.
She also advises against allowing children to have a Nintendo Wii in their bedroom, as the computer console requires children to have lots of space to complete the physical actions required.
Amazon recently claimed that Microsoft's Xbox 360 Kinect movement sensor technology will require around 6ft of space between the player and the screen.
As such, parents may not be keen on investing in this new product if their children have a small room.
