South Carolina bed race draws crowds for impressive course time.
Last week saw the competitors line up for the annual Beaufort Water Festival's bed race in South Carolina, US.The arrangement of the bed spread was the least of concerns as teams raced down a 400-yard stretch of Bay Street in the town, with one member of each team lying on the bed while it is pushed along at high speed, reports the Beaufort Gazette.
Winning team Gullah Sentinel finished the race in just 37.9 seconds, cutting an impressive 67 seconds off last year's winning time.
Speaking to the newspaper after the race, festival sports organiser Donna Patrick explained: "This is the fastest bed race we've seen in at least six years. All of them came in under a minute."
Last month the West Yorkshire town of Knaresborough held its own Bed Race.
The 45th annual event held in the town saw a record 90 teams entering this year's event, with the winning team Ripon Runners completing the course in 13 minutes and 56 seconds.
