B&Bs are driving 'new luxury industry'
Published: 12 June 2009
Although many people will head to top-brand hotels when looking for the ultimate luxury experience this summer, many may want to consider B&Bs, which are becoming much more swish, even using Egyptian cotton bed linen.
Many travellers in Britain this summer may want to head to the Hilton, Marriott or Thistle Hotel chain for the best experience, though it really may be a silly mistake to make. After all, the bed and breakfast (B&B) industry is going from strength to strength in terms of luxury available, according to Emma Eversham of BigHospitality.
She explained that despite the relatively small workforce and lack of available space, many of their managers are "some of the most innovative, switched-on and customer-facing members of the hospitality industry" she has ever met.
Many use designer furniture, under-floor heating and walk-in wardrobes to get a bit of creativity in the room, though it doesn't stop there, Ms Eversham said.
She continued: "Others have Egyptian cotton bed linen, make their own bread, offer self-catering cottages and much more than many would expect."
The AA currently runs the B&B Awards for the UK, looking for credentials such as friendliest landlady, funkiest B&B of the year and guest accommodation of the year for England, Scotland and Wales.
