Babies need 'safe bedding' for healthy sleep
Published: 02 June 2009
Despite the number of babies dying of cot death dropping fast in recent years, parents must still ensure their baby's sleeping environment is safe and comfortable, right down to their choice of bedding and blankets.
Parents must be especially careful when creating a sleeping environment for their offspring, according to a leading light in health and relationships. The Daily Mirror's Dr Miriam Stoppard said babies need to have a solid sleeping routine, as it will also improve the lives of their parents.
One of her main points surrounded the use of bedding, emphasising that a pillow, quilt or duvet cover should never be used before the young one reaches one year old, instead opting for a sleeping bag or a bedsheet.
A baby should always sleep on its back too, Dr Miriam added, as it is the safest position if a young want is to avoid suffocation.
According to Sleep Well Baby, baby cribs should also be certified as safe as soft surfaces can be very problematic for safe sleep.
