Bed linen legend rescues bedding for homeless

A resident of Maplewood in New Jersey is campaigning for bed linen from local hotels in order to sustain the comfort of homeless people at her local Salvation Army facility, hoping that her actions will start a larger trend.

Bed linen legend rescues bedding for homeless Traditionally, hotels always aim for the highest of standards, meaning that any discoloured or frayed materials are soon disposed of - including bed linen.

But one selfless woman made it her duty to chase local upper-class establishments up on their policy to throw away their bedding and donate it to a much more worthy cause: the Salvation Army, the New Jersey Star-Ledger reported.

Mary Marzano started her quest at the Hyatt Morristown, who claimed the gently-used bedding for the charity simply two blocks away, preventing homeless people from feeling the discomfort of plastic-like mats at the local chapel floor.

The regular washing of bed linen in hotels means that turnover is much quicker, with colours fading long before the material loses strength.

Ms Marzano is currently taking her project to other hotels in the area.

The summer provides another opportunity to customise bed linen, with Mary Carol Garrity of Scripps News remarking last week that bright and bold colours on duvet covers and bedspreads are fantastic.
