Bedrooms 'no longer haven of peace and tranquillity'
Published: 11 June 2009
People are no longer investing in the things that matter for the bedroom such as good bed linen and comforters, instead treating it as a space for absorbing activities associated with other parts of the home.
The bedroom is no longer a "haven of peace and tranquillity", according to a major new survey.Carried out for the Metro by Harris Interactive, the study found that instead of being a place of relaxation with little more than bed linen and comforters to keep a person or couple company, a bedroom is now turning into a multi-purpose entertainment space.
Harris found that 30 per cent of people are using it to play computer games more, with 50 per cent of people finishing work in bed via their laptops, thus undermining the comfort zone the bedroom can provide.
However, 44 per cent of people still aim to maximise the bedroom's serenity by removing televisions from the space.
A recent study by Credent Technologies backs the discoveries made by Harris, finding that 57 per cent of bedroom laptop users will spend up to six hours a week doing work from under their duvet covers.
Add that touch of luxury to your home.
