Cleaning bedspreads? Fleasy does it
Published: 22 June 2009
Fleas can be a huge menace to people sharing the majority of their house with pets, which is why bedspreads and comforters should regularly be washed to avoid these microscopic menaces.
Vacuum cleaners, washing machines and hot water are the greatest enemies of fleas and should be used ruthlessly in the home if a family is to eradicate all traces of them from pets, it is said.Leah McClellan, a pet care expert writing for the Examiner, explained that fleas aren't too adept when it comes to surviving water as they can drown very easily, making a cleaning process following a pet's flea infestation very easy to deal with.
Bedrooms were earmarked as the main area for people to focus on in this sense.
She said: "If you have a bedspread or comforter you'd rather not wash so often and if your dog or cat sleeps in a regular spot on your bed, try covering the area with a sheet or two and wash the sheet frequently."
By also laundering pet bedding regularly, issues of fleas in the house will be minimised anyway.
In terms of children's bedding, people should always prioritise an investment in organic cotton or other natural products as this will keep them out of contact with any unnecessary chemicals, HealthNewsDigest.com stated.
