Bed maker to launch $44k mattress fit for a king

A mattress manufacturer in the US has claimed that nobody can put a price on a good night's sleep - which is just as well, because it plans to release a $44,000 (£30,000) mattress this year.ES Kluft's Sublime mattress, which will be produced on a made-to-order basis, is the most expensive mattress ever made in the US and could be just the thing to lie beneath a set of luxury bed linen.
Made out of cashmere, silk, exotic wools, horsehair and organic cotton, buyers will have to make their own decision as to whether the Sublime can justify its sports car price tag.
"A growing number of affluent customers would prefer to buy sleep products in America made by American craftsmen," said Earl Kluft, chief executive of ES Kluft.
"As the luxury market begins to come back, an increasing number of consumers are willing to pay more for a better sleep experience."
Nobody can accuse ES Kluft of sparing any expense with its mattresses: the hand-stitched border on its products alone takes more than eight hours to complete.
