Brand new bedding 'helps woman tackle allergies'
Published: 09 June 2010
A woman who thought she had hay fever for many years has discovered she instead has an allergy against dust mites, prompting her to buy new bedding.
A woman has invested in brand new bed linen after finding out she was allergic to dust mites and did not suffer from hay fever as originally thought.Gillian Stevens, 40, told the Daily Mail that she had suffered from a runny nose and swollen eyes since she was a teenager, thinking it was a reaction to pollen.
However, doctors realised that Ms Stevens was instead showing a reaction to dust mites and was advised to do all she could to remove them from her home.
She told the paper: "I got a mattress cover for my bed and got rid of a lot of soft furnishings like blankets and just used a duvet, which I washed regularly."
The David Hide Asthma and Allergy Research Centre on the Isle of Wight recently revealed that asthma sufferers can relieve their symptoms by sleeping on new bed linen.
