Don't deny your kids sleep this summer

Children need as much sleep during the summer months as they do at any other time of year.

Don't deny your kids sleep this summer Encouraging children to spend time in kids' bedding over the summer can often prove a difficult task, an expert has said.

The longer days mean there are plenty of opportunities for children to be denied their usual day-to-day routines, highlighted Shelly Weiss of Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children.

This may include meal times being later than usual, or kids playing outside for longer because it does not get dark so early.

Dr Weiss told the Toronto Sun that although parents might enjoy these relaxed rules, it may not be having a positive impact on the children, regardless of what age they are.

"The sleep requirements remain the same, so parents need to think of what kinds of schedules they are on," she commented.

Parents were recently advised by interior designer Amanda Sinistaj in the Detroit News to ensure they get input from their children when purchasing new kids' bedding.
