Sleep 'helps guitarists master their art'
Published: 11 June 2010
Anyone hoping to become a great guitar player needs to make sure they are getting enough sleep, researchers have discovered.Scientists from department of psychology at Trent University in Ontario found that sleep is essential to improving co-ordination, which is crucial for guitar players.
Those involved in the experiments were required to keep to strict sleeping and waking patterns before being asked to play Guitar Hero III.
It found that there was a 68 per cent accuracy rate for those who had in excess of 12 hours sleep, while those who did not regulate their sleep were less successful.
Dr Kevin Peters, who was involved in the study, highlighted that the research shows a direct connection between sleep and motor learning.
"This is important as these results indicate that sleep can help consolidate the skills that people encounter in their daily lives," he added.
Earlier this week, sleep was linked to sound colour perception by researchers at the University of Houston.
