Bed linen is 'top target' for NHS superbug fighters

An NHS Trust is planning to fight the problems of hospital superbugs such as MRSA by targeting the most-used material in the hospital - that of bed linen, with aims to completely do away with things which may affect patients' health.
An NHS Trust is leading the charge against the problems associated with in-house viruses, with the organisation targeting bed linen and other areas to ensure its hospitals are as clean as possible.Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is deciding on its three-year cleaning strategy to overhaul its standards as part of a national drive pioneered by the government to wipe out the threats posed by MRSA and other superbugs, with new methods being tested out on bedding.
Ideas include the use of copper surfaces, on which bugs struggle to live, with silver extracts possibly being used in duvet covers and bedspreads to eliminate further threats to patients.
According to the NHS, MRSA is a mutated version of a bug which is found on the surface skin of one in three people in the UK, making it possible for many to get infected through a small cut or wound.
