Bedding can be 'great sanctuary for bugs as well as people'

Bedding may look clean but it is far from the case, according to one doctor, who emphasises the need for people to regularly clean duvet covers, comforters and pillows to avoid the chance of getting allergies.
An allergist has highlighted the need for everyone to consider just how clean their bed is, emphasising the importance of keeping their bedding as clean as possible on a regular basis.People who are vulnerable to allergies are particularly at risk of putting themselves in a bad situation, according to Dr Clifford Bassett, who said that an unclean bed made it easier for allergens to build up in bed linen.
The expert explained: "Unprotected mattresses can double in weight every ten years due to microscopic allergens that accumulate inside mattresses. These particles are taken into the body through respiration and can lead to increased allergy symptoms."
People wanting to clean their bedding have been given tips by Charles Kassotis, who said that that foam pillows should only be cleaned by hand and very carefully at that, not twisting or wringing them out when wet.
