Bedding care 'can ease allergies'
Published: 19 March 2009
Taking good care of pillows and duvets can reduce the suffering of those with allergies, it is claimed.
By looking after bedding, duvets and pillows, people can ease their allergies, it is reported. When it comes to dust mites causing sneezing and itching, encasing bed linen in impermeable covers can keep the bed bugs out, explains Cleveland.com.
The news provider also suggests that all duvet covers, pillow cases, comforters and other bed linen are washed in hot water at least once a week.
As for other bedroom furnishings, stuffed toys suspected of harbouring a dust mite infestation can be de-bugged by placing in a plastic bag in the freezer for 24 to 48 hours, it continues.
Furthermore, dusting in the bedroom should be done with a damp cloth so dust is gathered rather than spread in to the air to settle on bed linen.
"There are no 100 per cent cures for dust-mite problems or any other allergies," the news provider states.
"But a little prevention can make home life much easier for those with allergies."
The NHS suggests that a fifth of the population are allergic to dust mites and suggests airing bed linen and using cotton pillow cases and duvet covers can combat the creepy crawlies.
Add that touch of luxury to your home.
