People are not as aware of the heat that can be lost in the house through silly ways, with homeowners advised to harness bedding such as mattress pads, duvet covers and comforters to stay warm on colder nights.

Bedding 'great for saving money on bills' Homeowners ought to realise that making the smallest changes to a lifestyle can reflect on energy bills, cutting them down through simple adjustments, it has been stated.

One such way to do it is through using good bedding, according to Patricia Rivera of Philly.com, who says that people wanting to go greener and save some money in the process should use a heated mattress pad or a down comforter in the bedroom.

Turning it on briefly before bed and then off again before falling asleep can cut down on excessive heating in the long-run, she justified.

Ms Rivera added: "The bed is warm and the comforter maintains the temperature for the rest of the night, making it more comfortable to drop the thermostat to, perhaps, 60 degrees at night."

According to Best in Bedding, comforters are the most inexpensive way to create a warm and comfortable bed, with a wide range of materials giving plenty of choice for both serious and casual buyers.
