Many people may find themselves susceptible to a lot of respiratory problems from not cleaning bedding regularly - which is why one source is giving out tips for addressing bed linen properly.

Allergens in bedding can be 'easily fought' Over two million dust mites are found in the average bed and can lead to all sorts of issues in terms of health, according to a new report by a major US media company.

As such, CBS News offered plenty of cleaning tips to help people stay fit and healthy. It explained that bedding is not the first thing to clean - instead, people must work their duster from the top to the bottom of the bedroom.

Ceilings, walls and window dressings must be cleansed first, before individuals move onto furniture and bedding, before shifting the focus from bed linen to vacuuming the floor.

To be extra safe, CBS recommended the use of mattress and pillow encasements underneath bedding as this can allow for more protection against unwanted microbes.

Rest-based organisation Sound Asleep recently discovered that people in the south-west are most hygienic when it comes to bed linen, with 78 per cent buying new duvets and pillows every five years and washing their duvet covers more often.
