Swap from bags to bed linen 'not hard' for Lulu Guinness
Published: 11 May 2009
Lulu Guinness, the fashion designer who made her name creating edgy and new-look handbags, has explained why she made the switch from handbags to bed linen as her main trade.
Lulu Guinness was once known for her handbags, yet her change in design code from this to bed linen has made an impact on the bedding trade, it has been stated. In an interview with the Independent's Annie Deakin, Ms Guinness spoke of her new direction shortly after finishing a conversation with celebrity pal Helena Bonham Carter, who was present in her Sloane Square store as Ms Deakin entered.
Lulu explained that the world of bedding had become a lot more lucrative, with the likes of Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan also entering the marketplace for comforters and bedspreads.
She continued: "The reason I went from handbags to bed linen is because the surface of a handbag can be constricting.
"I love pattern, embellishment, embroidery and print. To design the large area of a duvet cover is exciting for me."
London was also the home to the biggest bed linen in the country last week, as record breakers assembled to take part in the globe's biggest bed jump in Covent Garden.
