Children's bedrooms 'about more than just the bedding'
Published: 14 May 2010
There is often more to preparing a child's bedroom than choosing the right kid's bedding, it has been claimed.
Making a child's bedroom work is about more than just choosing the right bedding, according to one interior designer.Commenting on a recent project for two new parents, New York's Kevin Dumais explained in an interview with the New York Times that choosing to convert an existing office into a bedroom can be costly.
He told the newspaper: "Converting the one room into two is really going to drive the pricing.
"It's not as if we're just painting the walls and putting a crib in here. We've really got to make the function work."
Choosing where a child sleeps and how the room is designed could be key to ensuring proper emotional development, according to new research.
Scientists at Auburn University found that children from poorer backgrounds are particularly affected by poor sleep, showing increased signs of aggression, depression and low self-esteem.
