De-stress before you doze off, says expert

One sleep expert has advised people to address their anxieties before trying to get a good night's rest.
It is important for people to take stress-reducing measures while at work to help themselves sleep at night, an expert has revealed.Speaking to timeslive.co.za, Professor Thomas Pollmaecher of the German Society of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Neurological Healing, suggested that taking short breaks can make all the difference.
This, coupled with a reduced workload, will help individuals clear their minds of clutter before heading under the duvet cover, he claimed.
Exercise is also crucial, as fresh air will help the body unwind later in the day, Professor Pollmaecher said, although over-exertion should be avoided in the evenings.
This will mean that the body and mind are still active, therefore reducing the quality of sleep, he added.
Scientists at the University of Florida recently found that newborns are more effective at taking in information during the hours of sleep.
It is hoped these findings will help address behavioural disorders in young children.
