Effect of stress on sleep 'going undiagnosed in the UK' Brits that find it difficult to sleep under their duvet covers may not be recognising the problem as a symptom of stress, it has been suggested.

Being "tired, ratty and irritable" are some of the main consequences of not having dealt with stress, according to Stress Management Society director Neil Shah.

He explained that this can begin to affect sleep patterns and can prevent people from getting a good night's sleep.

Mr Shah added: "It will have an impact on your libido, your sex drive so it will have an impact on your personal relationships.

"It's important that you take the time to ensure that you are managing at work on a day to day basis so that you don't get overwhelmed."

The recession has increased stress levels among many Brits in the UK, according to recent research by Mind.

A survey by the mental health charity indicated that one in ten workers have sought support from their doctors since the onset of the recession, while seven per cent have started taking antidepressants for stress and other problems.
