Hormonal imbalances in men 'lead to less time under the duvet cover'
Published: 18 May 2010
Men are missing out on time under their duvet covers due to hormonal imbalances.
Men over 40 years of age are less likely to get a good night's sleep due to issues with their hormones, scientists at the University of Montreal's Department of Psychology have found. They discovered that youngsters are likely to spend longer under their duvet covers because they have high levels of testosterone.
For men over the age of 40, however, the imbalance becomes more of an issue, which can then deprive them of a good night's sleep.
Zoran Sekerovic, a researcher involved in the study, commented: "With age, there is neuronal loss and the synchronisation of cerebral activity isn't as good, which is why there is a loss of deep sleep."
He said that more research is needed to discover what must be done in order to address the issue, as hormonal therapy may not have the desired effect.
In recent days, orthopaedic spine surgeon Clayton Dean told wsoctv.com that back pain can often result from people failing to change their mattress.
