Pregnant women 'must be comfortable under the duvet cover'
Published: 25 May 2010
Sleeping positions must be carefully considered by pregnant women, it has been revealed.
Pregnant women need to be careful which position they sleep in to avoid being uncomfortable or causing harm to their babies.Claire Cipolletti, in an article for empowher.com, said that sleeping on the front is no longer possible and trying to doze off on the back should also be avoided.
Instead, she recommended sleeping on the side, which is advice also backed up by the American Pregnancy Association.
She continued: "When sleeping on your side, keep your knees slightly bent and prop a pillow between them.
"You can also prop a pillow in between your belly and the bed for increased comfort."
Once the baby has been born, it is important to ensure they get sufficient sleep as this is when they take in the most information, researchers at the University of Florida recently found.
They suggested that data from the study could be used to treat problems such as dyslexia later in life.
