Should you let your baby cry at night?
Published: 24 May 2012
Parents may be undecided on practising controlled crying with their babies at night.
I have tried everything to stop my baby crying at night, even down to ensuring that she has the best in kids bedding. However, nothing seems to work and my husband and I are getting tired of the constant back and forth.
Friends of mine have told me that I should just let her cry, as it is the only way that she will learn to go to sleep on her own, but a recent study has suggested that babies who are left to weep feel stressed.
More research is needed on the subject, according to specialists, yet the whole things has left me unsure of what to do next. It has been shown that controlled crying can help babies get a better night's sleep, but I obviously don't want to cause my child upset.
I voiced these concerns to my husband and he said that it is probably down to personal preference. So, for now, I'm going to keep going to my daughter when she cries but I am definitely open to suggestions.
